Chanay Electric

Deerfield Beach Electrician for Storm Season and Every Day

Deerfield Beach sits at the top of Broward County, right on the ocean, and every hurricane season reminds people here how much they depend on their electrical system. Power goes out, comes back with a jolt, and suddenly the garage door opener or the AC board is dead. Much of what we do in Deerfield Beach is about making homes better prepared for those moments.

Chanay Electric is a licensed, bonded and insured electrician based in Plantation. We install whole-house surge protection, handle panel upgrades and take care of everyday repairs for Deerfield Beach houses and condos, east and west of I-95.

Here is what some of our customers had to say.

Here is how we help Deerfield Beach homeowners and condo owners.

Troubleshooting electrical problems

After a storm or an outage, Deerfield Beach homeowners often find one circuit that will not come back, a GFCI that keeps tripping, or an appliance that stopped working. The cause might be a damaged breaker, moisture in an outdoor box, or a surge that hit one device. We test methodically and get the house fully back to normal.

Electrical panel upgrades

When power returns after an outage, the panel takes the first hit. An older panel with worn breakers or loose lugs may not handle that well. If yours trips often, feels warm or shows rust, we inspect it and recommend repair or replacement. A new panel is also the right time to add a whole-house surge protector.

New
installations

Small upgrades go a long way in Deerfield Beach homes and condos. We replace worn outlets and switches, add GFCI protection where it is missing, install ceiling fans that keep air moving when it is humid, and put in outdoor lighting that holds up to salt and rain. Every job is done neatly and to code.

New wiring or rewiring services

Some Deerfield Beach homes, especially older ones east of Federal Highway, still have original wiring from decades ago. If you notice frequent tripping, outlets that do not hold a plug, or discolored cover plates, the wiring may be wearing out. We find the weak circuits and replace them so the house is safe for how you live now.

Surge protection

Surges are a fact of life during storm season, from nearby lightning and from the power coming back after an outage. A whole-house surge protector at the panel helps protect the AC, refrigerator, washer, garage door opener and other equipment that runs on circuit boards. It is one of the best value upgrades for a coastal home.

Hurricane season comes every year. If you want your Deerfield Beach home better protected, or you have a repair waiting, now is a good time to call, before the next storm is on the way.

We work Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm. Call Chanay Electric at (754) 799-4371 or reach out here.

Getting Deerfield Beach Homes Ready for Storm Season

Deerfield Beach is the northernmost city in Broward, with a beachfront along A1A, the well-known fishing pier, and neighborhoods stretching west past I-95. It also has one of the largest 55 and older condominium communities in the area. That mix means we work on everything from older beach cottages to high-rise units to newer single-family homes out west. Each one has different wiring, different rules and different weak spots.

Hurricane season runs June through November, and it shapes a lot of electrical decisions here. Outages and the surges that follow them can damage electronics, AC systems and appliances. A whole-house surge protector is a practical first line of defense. If your home got water during a storm, have outlets, the panel and any affected appliances inspected before you turn power back on. After any major storm, a quick safety inspection can catch damage you cannot see.

Near the beach, salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor equipment, so exterior outlets, fixtures and panels need more attention than they would inland. In condos, remember that work touching the building’s shared electrical usually needs association approval, while work inside your unit generally does not. When a job needs a permit, we pull it through the city’s building department and schedule the inspection for you.

We serve homes and condos throughout Deerfield Beach, including:

  • The Cove
  • Century Village
  • Deer Creek
  • The beachfront along A1A
  • The Hillsboro Boulevard corridor
  • The area east of Federal Highway
  • Neighborhoods west of I-95
  • Zip codes 33441 and 33442

Questions we hear in Deerfield Beach

What should I check after a hurricane or power outage?

Walk the house and note any circuit, outlet or appliance that is not working. If anything got wet, leave it off. Check that GFCI outlets reset, and watch for burning smells or warm cover plates. If anything seems off, call an electrician. Surge damage often shows up as one dead device while everything else works.

Will a whole-house surge protector protect everything?

It protects against surges coming in from the utility side, which are the large ones, and it covers hardwired equipment like the AC and pool pump that plug-in strips cannot. It is not lightning-proof against a direct strike, and surges can also start inside the house, so plug-in protectors for electronics are still a good idea.

Can you work on my condo in Century Village or on the beach?

Yes. We regularly do outlet, switch, fixture and fan work inside condo units. If the job involves the building's electrical room, the meter or anything outside your unit, check with your association first. Many condo buildings have their own rules and approved hours for contractors, and we work within them.

Is it safe to use a portable generator after a storm?

Only if it is used correctly. Keep it outdoors, far from windows and doors, and never plug it into a wall outlet to backfeed the house, since that can injure utility workers and damage your home. Use heavy-duty extension cords rated for the load. If you are unsure about your setup, call and ask.

Are you open on Saturdays?

Yes. We work Monday through Saturday from 8am to 5pm and are closed Sunday. After storms our schedule fills quickly, so it helps to call early. If something is urgent, call (754) 799-4371 and ask, and we will tell you honestly when we can be there.
